I’m a biology PhD student at the University of Missouri St. Louis and am participating in the Barbara McClintock Letter Initiative with other students around the nation.
The goal of the initiative is to have students write to their local paper about their research/science, why it’s important and encourage a call to action about supporting science around the nation, particularly with the current state of affairs with science in America. The idea is for it to be local, in order to reach more everyday folks about how science connects to them and why it matters.
The goal of the initiative is to have students publish all of these pieces with their local outlet around the nation on June 16 (the date Barbara McClintock was born; she was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize).
