A man died after he was hit by an SUV Friday night outside Jefferson Barracks Park during the JB Blast, although police said the incident does not appear to be related in any way to the event.
Ernest Feiteira, 66, of the 200 block of Pentonville Drive in Lemay, died at a hospital after he was hit by an SUV around 8:04 p.m., while crossing the street outside the park at the intersection of Kingston Drive and Pentonville Drive, police said.
A Hyundai Santa Fe SUV was driving south on Kingston and hit the man, police said. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries soon after he arrived.
The driver, a woman, stayed on the scene and is cooperating with authorities. She also had a male passenger in her car.
Police said there did not appear to be an immediate connection to the festivities inside the park and the crash. Feiteira lived in the neighborhood, and the couple in the car was coming from a casino.
Officers from the South County Precinct responded to the scene. The incident is under investigation by the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons and Accident Reconstruction Unit.
The JB Blast kicked off at 7 p.m. inside the park, with fireworks starting soon after 9 p.m. The event was rescheduled from July 3 due to heavy rain that prevented cars from being parked on the grass in the park.
