Editor’s note: The deceased has been identified as Josephine Orsan, 88, of the 1700 block of Herault Place.

A pedestrian — now identified as Josephine Orsan, 88 — was fatally struck in the 1700 block of Lemay Ferry Road this afternoon.

According to police, officers from the South County Precinct responded to a motor vehicle crash at the aforementioned location on March 13 “just before” 2:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers located Orsan, who had been struck by a vehicle. Orsan was transported to an area hospital for life-saving treatment, but later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a driver traveling southbound on Lemay Ferry Road rear-ended another vehicle; this impact caused the striking vehicle to leave the roadway and hit Orsan, who was standing near a bus stop on southbound Lemay Ferry Road. The driver of the striking vehicle, an unnamed adult female, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle that was rear-ended remained on scene and was not injured.
