The Order of the Eastern Star

Barbee Chapter No. 31 of the Order of the Eastern Star recently ‘adopted’ a solider serving in Iraq and honored him and chapter veterans during a recent dinner. Spec. William ‘Bill’ Megl of Affton is a Bayless High School graduate now serving with the U.S. Army 89th Transport-57th Battalion in Iraq. Megl is the best friend of the chapter’s associate matron, Angela Arnold. Because Megl had to return to Iraq and miss the holidays, the chapter had a turkey dinner to honor him and the chapter’s veterans — Pete Cavic, Ray Sutterer, Gene Warder and Pete Duncan. The chapter also recently elected new officers. Pictured, fourth row, from left, are: Jim Arnold, worthy patron; Pete Cavic, chaplain; Pete Duncan, treasurer; and Ray Sutterer, associate patron. Third row, from left, are: Georgia Arnold, worthy matron; Grace Gibbons, Adah; Gene Carter, warder; Beaulah Fink, Electa; and Kay Sutterer, secretary; Second row, from left, are: Lisa Hairer, associate conductress; Roberta Carter, Ruth; Angela Arnold, associate matron; Megl; Barbara Laverriere, conductress; and Florence Jones, organist.
