Sofia Catherine Mosello passed away on Aug. 23 at the tender age of 3 due to a sudden, unknown illness.

Sofie Kate was born to Jerica and Tony Mosello on Jan. 31, 2023, in St. Louis. She was unquestionably the center of her family and the light of their lives. She was adored by her two brothers, her daddy and her mama. She captured the hearts of all who met her. Sofie was gentle, tender, loving, compassionate, brilliant, thoughtful, intuitive, silly, weird, funny, joyful and unbelievably beautiful. When Sofie Kate grew up she wanted to be “a mommy.”

Sofie Kate loved to dance, sing and be endlessly silly. She would try anything that her brothers did. She was a water bug who lived to be in the pool or playing in the shower. She loved to color and was always proud of her creations.

She was her mama’s shadow in the kitchen and during housework, constantly trying to sit on the counter to watch Jerica cook or stealing the broom to sweep. One of her favorite things was to unpack the dishwasher with Jerica, always grabbing the knives to put them away no matter how many times she was corrected, and always with a sweet, mischievous grin.

She loved to get on the ground and play floor hockey with her daddy and often took his ball and stick when he was away. She was a natural stick handler. Sofie Kate loved “Frozen” and was singing and creating magic hand motions to “Let It Go” even before she turned 3. She loved to eat and never shied away from grown-up foods. She liked spicy dishes, fish, steak and soup. She enjoyed oatmeal and, above all breakfast foods, pancakes.

Sofia Catherine is survived by her adoring parents, Jerica and Tony, and her brothers, Leonardo (7) and Vincent (5). She was blessed to know all of her grandparents, Jennifer and Dave Drago, Mary Quigley Holloway and Mark Holloway, and Becky and Rick Mosello. She is additionally survived by her four loving aunts, Catie Alicano, Jamie Drago, Michelle Mosello and Ashley Mosello; her uncles, Jonathon Alicano and Brad Mosello; her cousins, Makendree, Landen, Brody and Elena; and her loving great-grandmother, Mary Quigley.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Judy, Steve, Milt, Joan, Dolores, Albert and Jim; and by her great-uncle, Patrick.

A visitation will be held Aug. 31, at Schrader Funeral Home in Ballwin from 3 to 8 p.m. A service will take place on Sept. 1, at 1 p.m., followed by an elaborate and joyful celebration of life from 1:45 to 5 p.m., all taking place at Faith Lutheran Church in Oakville, where Sofie Kate attended preschool and was cherished by the staff who filled her life with an abundance of love. Anyone is invited to attend these arrangements, and the family requests that no black be worn.

Sofie Kate loved tea parties with her family and dancing to “Frozen” and other upbeat songs. Her visitation will have elements of tea parties, and her celebration of life will be a princess party including all of the decorations and elements of the fourth birthday party she will not be here to enjoy. Sofie Kate loved seeing people dressed up and feeling “pwetty,” so the family requests that you dress to impress and encourage children to wear their favorite dress-up clothes. Some will be available to borrow if needed.

After Sofie Kate's celebration of life, a gathering of continued fellowship and support will be held at Oakville Sports Pub, 6348 Telegraph Road.

An endowment will be created in accordance with Sofie’s generous heart that will help support families unable to afford tuition for Faith Early Childhood Center and help families at the school facing food insecurity. Contributions can be made at https://faithoakville.org/sofiekateslightfund.
