Obituary For Mary Sue Burghoff (nee Batterton)

Mary Sue Burghoff (nee Batterton) died July 20, 2021. Sue was born Dec. 28, 1927, in St Louis. She graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in 1945, attended Fontbonne University and married John Russell Burghoff on Jan. 27, 1951, and had seven children. She was an avid bridge player, belonging to many bridge clubs, became a floral designer, was a long-time member of Glen Echo Country Club, and volunteered thousands of hours at Incarnate Word Hospital and Pathways Hospice. She and Russ moved into Friendship Village Sunset Hills in 2003, where she made many friends and volunteered in the arts and crafts department, using her floral designer skills. She was able to fulfill her last wish, which was to stay in her apartment, with the help of Pathways Hospice, and die in peace. She is the mother of seven: Mary (Bo) Burgess, Ann (Tim) Howard, Christine Burghoff, Barbara (Bill) Graham, Margaret Burghoff, John (Colleen) Burghoff, Matthew (Carolyn) Burghoff; grandmother of 23: Betsy, Susie and William Burgess; Jim, Beth and Mary Howard; Cassie Burghoff and Jack Barbey; Daniel, John, Ted, Laura and Caroline Graham; David, Dan, Laura, Emily and Jenny Burghoff; Megan, Claire, Grace, Matthew and Andrew; and great-grandmother of 23: Caleb and Isaac Puckett; Leo, Paul, and Maggie Majs; Liam and Russell Burgess; Gwen, Molly and Tilly Howard, Kelly and George Lavin; Gregory and Roma Graham; Ryeleigh Rae Perkins, Jericho Graham, Ada and Edie Burghoff; Liam and Lola Hauge; Theo, Frankie, and Ryan Walker; sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend. A private service was held July 27, 2021. Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
