Obituary For Eudoxia "Donna" Hatch Stahlnecker Reiss

Eudoxia "Donna" Hatch Stahlnecker Reiss, 88, died Jan. 21, 2025.

Beloved mother of Elaine Bertke (nee Stahlnecker) and Edwin Stahlnecker. Beloved grandmother of Lucianna, Michael and Nicholas Bertke. Beloved sister of Dan (Rhonda) Hatch. Cousin and friend to many.

Donia received her B.A. in secondary education, with a major in social studies and history from the University of Missouri--St. Louis in 1970. She accepted a job in the bacteriology lab with Ralston Purina at Checkerboard Square and enjoyed a long and fairly fulfilling employment with them until her retirement in June 1996. During her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and pursuing her passion for genealogy and spirituality.

Donia, Doxie or Donna -- as she was known by many -- was able to live her last years with her daughter, grandchildren and granddog, Chloe. She enjoyed living with them and the time they had together.

Donia encountered many obstacles in life and was able to always bounce back. Her many medical issues earned her the title of the “Bionic Grandma.” Her positive approach, in spite of so much she had to overcome, was one of her strongest assets. She always exhibited empathy and care for others despite her own issues.

She was the family historian and thrived on genealogy. She researched her family's Lemko Carpatho-Rusyn Heritage in Poland and through genealogy tools available in the United States. Donia was able to complete major parts of the family trees on both sides of her family. Even in her later years, she was so interested in learning about the heritage and history of others and had a keen interest in many topics.

The family thanks Mercy Hospice for their compassion and assistance. If desired, contributions can be made to Mercy Hospice South - de Greeff Hospice House, 10024 Kennerly Road.
