Obituary For Carl H. Hendrickson
Carl H. Hendrickson, 88, died April 19 in St. Louis.
Carl was born Jan. 1, 1937 — the first baby born that year in Evanston, Illinois. He was the eldest son of Margaret and Hank Hendrickson, and brother to Robert “Bob” Hendrickson and the late Richard “Dick” Hendrickson.
Carl is survived by his wife of 60 years, Saralou (nee Smith) Hendrickson; his three sons, Carl Jr. “Hal” (Brenda), Joseph “Joe” (Susan) and John (Heather); and his six grandchildren, Tanner, Paige, Josephine “Josie”, Norah, Cecilia “Ceci” and Nathan.
After serving in the United States Army, Carl attended Arizona State College (now Northern Arizona University), graduating in 1962. He went on to earn his law degree from Saint Louis University School of Law in 1965, attending on scholarship. Carl spent nearly three decades as an attorney for Union Electric Company (now AmerenUE).
In 1994, Carl was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives, where he served four two-year terms. After his eight years of legislative service, he continued his commitment to community engagement by writing columns for PrimeLife Circuit and later the St. Louis Call as the “Healthy Living” columnist.
Throughout his life, Carl was active in civic and values-based organizations. He was involved with the local Republican Party, Toastmasters International (earning the highest Distinguished Toastmaster rank), Mary Mother of the Church (founding member, 52 years), Nazareth Living Center Foundation and Citizens Against Pornography. He was proud to lend his voice and energy to causes he believed in.
Carl lived a life of faith, service and unwavering love for his family. His legacy is one ofintegrity, thoughtful leadership and quiet gentle strength.
Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. on June 14 at Mary Mother of the Church, 5901 Kerth Road, with mass at 10:30 a.m. and a luncheon to follow at the church hall. Condolences can be submitted online at www.bema.my/CHH.
