Coming off of an 11-2 season, the Oakville swimming and diving team is looking to repeat its success with the return of several relay swimmers.

The Tigers 2020-2021 season ended in heartbreak as a positive COVID test caused them to miss state competition, where they had nine swimmers/divers qualified. Both qualifying divers graduated at the end of the year.

Head coach Dan Schoenfeldt said six of those qualifiers are returning to the team this season, including the core of the relay teams. The core consists of Seth Steinbrueck, Doug Poertner, Max Sullivan, Mitch Daues and Mason Zimmerman.

Schoenfeldt said he expects some swimmers to challenge school records as the season progresses.

“Doug Poertner has his eyes set on the 100 fly school record and I know Seth Steinbrueck would like to walk away with the 500 school record as well,” he said. “I think our 200 free relay will probably end up doing some damage by the end of the year.”

Oakville’s first meet is at home against St. John Vianney High School Aug. 31.
