Oakville girls basketball eyes strong season with senior leadership, underclassmen talent

Oakville girls basketball coach Laura Bishop will be looking to her seniors to lead the way this season.

Addie Czuppon and Sami Simokaitis return to the lineup. Both girls have had success in the regular and postseason since their sophomore years.

After a 15-11 record last season, Bishop is hoping to build on that record this season.

“Goals for this season is that all four seniors step into a leadership role for the underclassmen,” Bishop said. “Our goal also is to be competitive every game and never get outworked.”

While it’s quite early in the season, Bishop likes what she sees from some underclassmen.

“Positive things we have seen so far are spots being filled by underclassmen and girls working on filling starting positions that needed to be filled from last year,” she said.

In the first two games of the season, Oakville has experienced success, opening the season 2-0. The Tigers defeated Fox, 52-35 in the first game of the season and then beat Affton 57-29. Czuppon is averaging 20.5 points and nine rebounds per game in the two wins.
