The Oakville Tigers boys soccer team enters the 2025 season with confidence, cohesion and a hunger to compete. Head coach Brad Oestreich believes his group has put in the work this summer to set the tone for a successful campaign.
“The players worked hard during the offseason. We had a great turnout at our two camps, had a good showing in our summer friendly scrimmage and the players did an outstanding job getting together on their own and getting work in,” he said.
Oakville’s focus this summer was on building cohesiveness and finishing opportunities, two areas the Tigers hope will pay off once the games begin. The team also gained valuable experience competing at the SIUE team camp and facing three strong programs out of Kansas, in addition to holding two of their own camps.
With just a few practices under their belts, Oestreich says the atmosphere has been outstanding. The coaching staff has emphasized staying connected with players throughout the offseason to build relationships and ensure readiness for the grind of the fall schedule.
“The vibe and energy have been excellent. We have an outstanding group of young men who are eager to get out there and play,” he said.
Oakville brings back several experienced varsity players expected to provide leadership. Oestreich also pointed to a talented group of sophomores who could make an immediate impact, with position battles across the field expected to keep the competition high.
While the team lost some key defensive players from last year, the coach believes this year’s back line could surprise opponents.
“Many might not think our defense will be strong, but I think our D will surprise some teams,” Oestreich said.
The Tigers have both short- and long-term goals in mind. Staying healthy and being ready to compete every game are at the top of the list early on. Long term, the team has its eyes set on making a run in the state playoffs.
For Oestreich, success will be defined by steady improvement.
“Success for this group will be to get better each and every game and peak at the right time,” he said.
With a mix of veteran leadership, promising underclassmen and a motivated roster, Oakville is eager to show they have what it takes.
“Our biggest strength this season will be veteran leadership and the hunger to compete and win in each and every game,” Oestreich said.
