New: Mehlville school board fills vacancy

The Mehlville School District once again boasts a full Board of Education as Ron Fedorchak of Oakville was named its seventh member Thursday.

Board members voted 6-0 to appoint Fedorchak after more than an hour of discussion and conducting a series of straw polls to narrow down the nine candidates who applied for the seat vacated by Micheal Ocello in April.

The formal motion to appoint Fedorchak was made by board Vice President Larry Felton and seconded by board member Tom Diehl.

Fedorchak, 44, is employed as an account representative at Cobert Associates, which sells chromatography and life science products. He and his wife, Micki, have lived in the district since 1991 and have three daughters who attend Oakville High School, Bernard Middle School and Blades Elementary School.

Fedorchak will serve until April, when his seat and Diehl’s will be up for election.

Thursday’s meeting followed more than three hours of candidate interviews on Wednesday.

Besides Fedorchak, the board conducted roughly 20-minute sessions with applicants David Wessel, Michael Gindler, Greg Frigerio, Tim Champion, Marea Kluth-Hoppe, Fred Padberg and Aaron Hilmer. Another candidate, Ken Leach, was unavailable for an interview as he was out of town on business.
