An ordinance authorizing an expenditure of $54,405.76 complete an asphalt overlay project on Mueller Road recently was approved by the Green Park Board of Aldermen.

Aldermen agreed Aug.18 to award a contract to the Ford Asphalt Co. the lowest bidder.

After soliciting a request for proposals, the Board of Alderman heard at least seven presentations for the project in July, but only three companies submitted a bids. Also submitting bids were Byrne & Jones Construction with a bid of $99,745.14 and County Asphalt Paving Co bid $70,079.00 for the project..

The Mueller Road overlay project is a continuation of a project which began two years ago.

Ward 2 Alderman Tony Konopka told the Call that the north end of Mueller Road was resurfaced two years ago and now the city is going to finish the south end.

The reason for the delay was due to all the construction that was taking place on the south end, including the Mehlville FireProtection District and St. Simon the Apostle Catholic Church.

However; now all construction in the area has been mostly completed, work on the overlay project could begin as early this month.

The Mueller Road project is one of four road improvement projects the city is currently pursuing.

The correction of a water runoff problem at 9500 Marbob, a street buckling problem at 9528 Alix and ditch and erosion problems on Green Park Road are the three other projects the city is currently working on.

The work on Green Park Road, which will consist of clearing out and leveling the ditches along the sides of the road. as well as putting something down to prevent erosion, has been approved, but a contract has not yet been awarded.

The city has received a bid from Ford Asphalt company to to do the work for $25,800, however; city officials are waiting to hear a bid proposal from R.V. Wagener. After that, a decision will be made on which firm will be awarded the contract, but board members have pre-approved the work to be done once the company has been chosen.

Besides these projects the city is waiting for the results of a comprehensive study of the city streets from P.H.Weis.
