MoDOT conducting several projects in South County

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated Interstate 55 would be closed between Reavis Barracks Road and Bayless Avenue this weekend. This is not the case. MoDOT has closed some lanes of I-55 between Reavis Barracks and Lindbergh Boulevard for an ongoing bridge replacement project through early 2025. MoDOT will also temporarily close the ramp from Interstate 270 to Lemay Ferry Road this weekend, weather permitting.

Drivers who use Interstate 270 in St. Louis County should consider alternative routes this weekend as the Missouri Department of Transportation plans to close several ramps along the interstate this weekend, weather permitting.

Weather permitting, MoDOT will close the ramp from eastbound I-270 to Lemay Ferry and northbound Interstate 55 at exit 1A to conduct guardrail work and coat the steal girders over the ramps. The ramp will close at 9 p.m. Friday and reopen Monday by 5 a.m. The exit to southbound I-55 at exit 1A will remain open.

The detour for this closure will be to continue east on Interstate 255 and take the second Lemay Ferry ramp at exit 15.  For northbound I-55, drivers can get back on westbound I-255 to take the ramp to northbound I-55.

All scheduled projects this weekend along the I-270 corridor are weather permitting.

Additionally, the leftmost northbound lane between Lindbergh Boulevard and Reavis Barracks on I-55 will remain closed through fall 2024.  The two left southbound lanes on I-55 between Reavis Barracks and Lindbergh will also remain closed through fall 2024. Crews will be working on reconstructing the median walls between the northbound and southbound lanes, as well as building the crossovers to shift traffic for the work on the bridges over Gravois Creek and Green Park Road later this year.

Overall, this project replaces or renovates 13 bridges that carry I-55 in both directions between Interstate 44, St. Louis City and Lindbergh Boulevard. All stages of the project are expected to be completed by early 2025.
