MFPD medical director Dr. Chris Bosche dies

Dr. Christopher J. “Chris” Bosche died Sept. 12.

Dr. Bosche battled cancer for nearly three years, a result of his exposure as a Ground Zero responder after the 9/11 attacks in New York City. He served as medical director of the Mehlville Fire Protection District since mid-2008.

Dr. Bosche was an emergency room physician at Mercy Hospital-St. Louis.

A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, he was a proud member of Missouri Task Force 1, Ohio 1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team and the Boone County Fire Protection District. Besides Ground Zero, he aided in rescue and recovery efforts at Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Sandy and after the tornado that struck Joplin. Dr. Bosche will always be remembered as a true friend to the fire and EMS community. He was forever a St. Louis Blues fan.

The Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors recently voted to name the EMS training facility at the district’s headquarters the “Dr. Christopher Bosche EMS Training Center.”

Gov. Eric Greitens ordered that U.S. and state flags be flown at half-staff Monday at all state government buildings in St. Louis County to honor Bosche.

“… We are tremendously grateful for dedicated lifesavers like Chris who sacrifice so much to serve their fellow citizens,” Greitens stated.

Dr. Bosche was the beloved husband of Amy Bosche (nee Cassidy); dear father of Jennifer Carol Bosche and Jacob John Bosche; loving son of Carol Bosche (nee Schaffner) and the late Alfred Bosche; brother of Tim (Anne) Bosche; and son-in-law of Joel and Carole Siegfried.

Visitation was at Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory. A memorial Mass was conducted at Holy Infant Catholic Church in Ballwin. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to BackStoppers or Responder Rescue Inc.
