James Mello, city administrator/city clerk for the City of Green Park, attended his last Green Park Board of Aldermen meeting Nov. 20. Mello resigned from his position last month to take a job with the City of Des Peres.
Mello was first hired by the city in 2016, and started in November of that year. He was Green Park’s fourth city administrator since its incorporation in 1995. Mello succeeded Zella Pope, who served the city from September 2007 until June 2016, when she resigned.
Before Green Park, Mello worked in cities like Chesterfield and Maplewood.
“The only other thing I gotta say is how much I’m gonna miss James,” Mayor Tim Thuston said at the end of the meeting. “James has done an outstanding job. He became a friend of mine and a trusted, valuable asset to the city. You’ve done an outstanding job and I’m happy for you. I’m proud for you. I’m glad it’s gonna further your career.”
According to Thuston, between six and eight candidates have already submitted their resumes to fill Mello’s seat. A special closed meeting, tentatively scheduled for Dec. 5 at 7 p.m., will be held so the board can discuss the applicants and hopefully decide on the new city administrator/city clerk. Prior to the special meeting, all aldermen are expected to look over the sent resumes so that everyone is familiar with and ready to talk about each prospective employee.
