Students and staff at Mehlville Senior High School and the South County Opportunity for the Purpose of Education are mourning the loss of 16-year-old Alex Grzyb.
Alex, a Mehlville High sophomore who was attending SCOPE, died in an automobile accident Jan. 15, according to a district press release. Mehlville High and SCOPE students observed a moment of silence in Alex’s memory Friday, Jan. 16.
Counselors were available for any student or staff member needing assistance dealing with the grief that can accompany such a tragic loss. Letters were sent home with students to notify parents of the death.
Alex had been a Mehlville student since 1993. He attended Trautwein Elementary School and Washington Middle School. As a freshman at Mehlville, he played football and was on the wrestling team.
Funeral arrangements were not available when the Call went to press Monday.
