Mehlville School District administrators to see pay hikes ranging from 1.62 percent to 5.18 percent

Administrative salary increases for the 2006-2007 school year ranging from 1.62 percent to 5.18 percent were approved last week by the Mehlville Board of Education.

The Board of Education previously had voted to name Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources A.D. McClain associate superintendent and approve a 10-percent salary hike for him. Board members voted 5-2 in a March 23 closed session to extend McClain’s two-year contract an additional year, name him associate superintendent and increase his salary to $126,360 from $114,877.85.

Voting to extend McClain’s contract were former President Rita Diekemper, former Vice President Bill Schornheuser, former Secretary Mike Heins, Cindy Christopher and Tom Correnti. Ken Leach, current board president, and Karl Frank Jr., current board vice president, were opposed.

Schornheuser and Heins were defeated in the April 4 election when Tom Diehl and Micheal Ocello were elected to the board.

For the 2004-2005 school year, McClain was paid $112,183.49. For the 2002-2003 school year, his salary was $107,848. The previous year, he was paid $104,000. For the 2000-2001 school year, McClain was paid $94,585.20. He began his duties in Mehlville during the 1999-2000 school year with a salary of $92,000.

In a May 25 closed session, administrative salaries were approved by the board in separate votes — 6-1 for Central Office administrators, excluding McClain, whose salary previously had been approved; 7-0 for Chief Financial Officer Stephen Keyser; and 6-1 for principals, assistant principals and directors. Frank cast the two dissenting votes.

Central Office salaries for the 2006-2007 school year are:
