Mehlville School District residents will have the opportunity today — Aug. 27 — to voice their opinions on the district’s proposed property-tax rates for 2009.
The Board of Education will conduct a public hearing on the proposed rates at 6:45 p.m. at the Administration Building, 3120 Lemay Ferry Road.
As proposed, the Board of Education will consider rolling up the district’s tax rate by 15.22 cents to recoup a 3.40-percent decrease in assessed valuation.
The proposed blended rate for fiscal 2009-2010 is $3.4326, up from the current blended rate of $3.2804.
Current assessed valuations are:
Real estate — residential: $1,213,670,660.
Real estate — agricultural: $490,550.
Real estate — commercial: $330,153,040.
Personal property: $275,290,530.
Proposed 2009 property tax rates, per $100 of assessed valuation, are as follows:
Real estate — residential: $3.4522.
Real estate — agricultural: $2.9524.
Real estate — commercial: $2.9177.
Personal property: $3.9648.
The school board must set the district’s tax rates by Sept. 1.
