Mehlville board to consider Ocello’s resignation

The Mehlville Board of Education is scheduled this week to consider the resignation of board member Micheal Ocello.

Board members will vote on whether to accept Ocello’s resignation when they meet in open session at 7 p.m. today — May 12 — in the Mehlville Senior High School library, 3200 Lemay Ferry Road.

If the resignation is approved, the board is expected to formally announce a vacancy when it meets next Thursday, May 19.

Board policy states that once a vacancy is announced, district residents interested in filling the seat have two weeks to send a letter to the board secretary “stating their qualifications and their reason for wishing to be on the board.”

The policy states the board will interview candidates and make its appointment in open session. Whoever is appointed to Ocello’s seat will serve until next April, when it again will be up for election.

Ocello, who was elected to the board in 2006 and re-elected in 2009, announced in February he and his wife planned to sell their Oakville house and move to Creve Coeur after last month’s election.

He’d submitted a letter of resignation contingent upon closing on the sale of his home, which took place late last month.
