After a long wait, Takeiros Mex-Grill — located at 5828 S. Lindbergh Blvd. — has plans to open, though the official timeline remains unclear.
“We’re getting closer every day and we couldn’t wait to show you a sneak peek of what’s cooking at Takeiros!” stated Tequila Mexican Restaurant, the parent restaurant group, in an email newsletter. “From the warm, vibrant colors to the handcrafted details, our team has been working hard to create a space that feels as authentic as the flavors we’ll be serving soon.”
The restaurant, which will serve Mexican fare, will feature hand-painted murals on the inside, along with two dining areas: one that is oriented toward family dining, and one that is more tailored for adult guests.
The development has been in the works for some time, and over the past year, South County locals have taken to the internet to repeatedly ask for updates on Takeiros. The building, which was previously a Steak ’n Shake restaurant, has been under development for years, with some commenters referencing equipment orders as far back as 2022.
“I am hoping that the restaurant does well, as I live in Green Park and we have been waiting for it to open so we can enjoy good Mexican food in our area,” community member Paula Rosmanitz said.
Takeiros is one of several food developments in South County that have struggled to open. Among them is Abelardo’s, 4500 Lemay Ferry Road. Locoz Tacos, 5544 S. Lindbergh Blvd., is not expected to open at all after suing the building’s owner for breach of contract and fraud — spurred by a “catastrophic” roof failure that rendered the building inoperable, according to restaurant operators.
“This is why we won’t be opening (in South County),” Locoz Tacoz stated in an Instagram post. “Small businesses give everything to serve their communities, but unresponsive landlords create obstacles we can’t overcome alone.”
Community members took to the Nextdoor app to discuss the news about Takeiros’s progress. “After all their work, it would be a shame if they couldn’t open,” one commenter said.
