Lindbergh High School alumnus Parker McDermott (class of 2016) was recently nominated along with five of his classmates from Brigham Young University for the Television Academy Foundation’s 44th College Television Awards for producing a spec commercial titled “Manumalo (Victory) – Nike.”
McDermott’s ad, featuring the underrepresented sport of Samoan fire-knife dancing, was selected from over 200 entries from universities nationwide.
“It’s such an honor to be nominated for a College Television Award,” McDermott stated in a press release. “It feels unbelievable, until I remember the caliber of people I’ve been working with. When I remember the skill and devotion of my teammates, it absolutely feels fitting that they should be awarded and lauded; and I’m grateful to be counted among their ranks.”
Winners will be announced by television stars at a red carpet awards ceremony on April 5 at the Television Academy in North Hollywood. Prior to the awards ceremony, nominees will have the opportunity to participate in professional development events with media and industry leaders.
Established in 1959 as the charitable arm of the Television Academy, the Television Academy Foundation is dedicated to preserving the legacy of television while educating and inspiring those who will shape its future.
