Jubilee Church to expand to second story

Representatives from Jubilee Church once again appeared before the Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen last month, this time to request a second-story expansion to the church they are building in an office park.

At the Jan. 8 meeting, Mike Vorwerk with Civil Engineering Design Consultants presented a plan to the board for changes to the church building slated to be built at 10801 Sunset Office Drive, adding a second floor for classrooms to be used for things such as Sunday school, youth groups and other church programs.

The two-story layout is a departure from the church’s original building design.

Under the first approved development plan, the church would have been one floor with an auditorium and offices.

The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended the amended plan Dec. 5.

Ward 3 Alderman Nathan Lipe and Ward 2 Alderman Casey Wong questioned Vorwerk about the church’s plans for additional parking. He said that the church was working out an agreement with the neighboring Holiday Inn for overflow parking.

The amended development plan was approved 7-0 by the board after some changes were made to the bill’s text regarding the parking agreement with Holiday Inn. A clause was also added that the church could not run a school without appearing before aldermen.
