Due to an overwhelming response, a second “Stop the Bleed” training event has been scheduled by state Rep. Jim Murphy, R-Oakville, and the Mehlville Fire Protection District. The first session, held in August, saw such high demand that many participants were placed on a waiting list, prompting Murphy and the district to host additional training. The second training will take place in conjunction with the MO Cares CPR Day of Service on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Training will take place Oct. 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at MFPD’s Engine House 5, 11020 Mueller Road. There will be multiple classes available, lasting one hour each. Preregistration is required. Visit mehlvillefire.com/stop-the-bleed for more information and to register.
The “Stop the Bleed” training is designed to equip participants with skills to manage severe bleeding in emergency situations. Those who complete the class will receive a free “Stop the Bleed Kit,” a $50 value. The importance of such training was highlighted by Rep. Murphy’s son, Jamey, who recently found himself in an emergency where he was unprepared to respond.
“A few weeks ago, there was an accident on (Interstate) 270, and I found myself in a situation where I didn’t know what to do. There was a lot of bleeding, and I had no way to stop it. I was fortunate my wife, a NICU nurse, was there to help. That feeling of helplessness when someone’s life is on the line is something I never want to experience again. That’s why I’m encouraging everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to learn basic medical skills that can save lives,” Jamey Murphy stated in a press release.
“We never know when an emergency will arise, but being prepared can make all the difference. This training provides our community with the tools and confidence needed to save lives,” Rep. Murphy added.
