Grantwood Village trustees OK pact for police services

Grantwood Village will continue to contract with St. Louis County for police services in 2013 under a three-year contract at $116,616 per year, as approved by the Board of Trustees last week.

For 2014 and 2015, contract increases are limited to 5 percent.

Lt. Bryan Ludwig of the St. Louis County Police Department told the board the three-year option is “a little bit less expensive” than the one-year option, which would cost $118,260 per year with no limit on future increases.

“I can account for men, man hours and material over a three-year period versus a one-year period …,” he said. “There is no difference in the service delivery of that contract. The only difference is the term.”

Signing the three-year deal does not lock the village into three years, according to Ludwig.

“You still have an escape clause at the end of every renewal term, the same way you would with the one year,” he said.

Grantwood Village was the first municipality to take part in the pilot program for contracting police services with the county in 1956, according to Ludwig.

The board also approved $700 for Village Clerk Will Larson to transfer the village’s website to a new host. The site was hosted by a friend of former chairwoman Cathy Forand and former budget director Joe Forand, and at the April board meeting the village announced the provider would no longer host the site.

A St. Louis University student, Sam Chambers, will transfer the contents of the site and train Larson on how to update content on the new site, which will be run through WordPress, a blogging platform.
