To the editor:
I worked at KMOX as a sportscaster from 1988-1991. The station was legendary, but so was how it was run. General Manager Robert Hyland required every letter and phone call to be returned. Mr. Hyland even wrote back to my mom’s godmother – and she was a prairie woman living in a home with no electricity – when she asked why the Mormon Tabernacle broadcast time had changed. People were dismissed when he found out they ignored communication from listeners.
State Sen. Doug Beck, State Rep. Michael Burton and (former) Councilman Ernie Trakas all fail that standard. Letters to each this year were unanswered.
Mr. Hyland’s name graces the Hyland Behavioral Health Center. There’s a reason why. It’s doubtful the same will be said about the three mentioned above.
