To the editor:
I was glad to see a recent response from a Boy Scout engaged in current political affairs. It shows that his family is providing good direction during a young man’s formative years. It emphasizes the choices made to become a good citizen (e.g., being a Boy Scout) rather than joining a gang and shooting innocent people on Highway 55. Additionally, Mr. Samuel Hoefgen’s (letter, Dec. 12, 2024) response in support of the young man was admirable.
However, having strong personal convictions against “mean tweets” falls short when a nation is on the brink of disaster, and the current administration’s advisors have proven inadequate based on Mr. Hoefgen’s expectations.
The American people have made choices regarding drugs flooding into our country, children sold for sex trafficking, the high cost of staples driven by flawed energy policies, men in women’s restrooms, men in women’s sports, billions of dollars in armaments abandoned in Afghanistan – along with lives lost, sanctuary cities, cities plagued by trash and rising crime, school districts and healthcare institutions overwhelmed by illegal immigration, proposed taxes on unrealized capital gains, the erosion of the rule of law – including controversial pardons, and most recently, steel from the border wall being sold. Apparently, the Biden-Harris administration didn’t get the memo: the majority of Americans want the wall!
The “Never Trumpers” are hurting because their leaders made poor policy decisions. Give Trump’s cabinet a chance to prove themselves; based on the last four years, success is guaranteed!
