Daniel Flynn of Oakville, a senior at St. John Vianney High School, has received a four-year Army ROTC scholarship to attend the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan., for the 2005-2006 school year.
Flynn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Patrick Flynn, was selected as one of three recipients of this prestigious scholarship from among hundreds of applicants. He also has been designated as a Freshman Honors Scholar at KU and has received an additional scholarship from the university based on academic merit.
Flynn also qualified for a Bright Flight Scholarship based on his ACT score.
During his four years at Vianney, he has maintained a 3.91 grade-point average, while earning varsity letters in football and track.
In January he received the Marinist Award, Vianney High’s highest award for citizenship, service and character.
He also is a member of the National Honor Society, the German Honor Society and the Letterman’s Club.
Flynn’s other interests include reading, movies and traveling to Germany. He spent four weeks there in the summer of 2003 and will do the same in the summer of 2004.
His family has served as hosts for German exchange students.
He maintains a part-time job at a video rental establishment, and is planning on majoring in education or history at KU.
