Firm appeals denial of permit for cell tower

The Crestwood Board of Adjustment will consider a wireless development firm’s appeal to build a cell phone tower when it meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, at the Government Center, 1 Detjen Drive.

St. Charles Tower wants to obtain an administrative permit to construct a 110-foot cell phone tower at the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 9973 Garber Road.

The site is in Ward 3 and is zoned residential.

The public works director denied the firm’s request for the administrative permit earlier this year because the cell phone tower did not qualify as a “disguised support structure,” as the firm proposed.

Overturning the public works director’s decision requires four affirmative votes from the Board of Adjustment, City Attorney Rob Golterman said last week.

If that happens, any aggrieved party — such as the city or individual residents — could appeal to the St. Louis County Circuit Court, Golterman said.

If the denial is upheld, St. Charles Tower still could seek a conditional use permit from the Planning and Zoning Commission, Golterman said.
