Seven new designs are on the table for Spellman Park’s small playground renovation. An open house was held at the Crestwood park on Aug. 11, where community members looked through the proposed designs and gave feedback. Crestwood communications manager AJ McNaughton said there were about a dozen attendees — mostly families with young children.
“The people we spoke with were enthusiastic about helping choose the new playground feature and enjoyed exploring the different options,” McNaughton said.
There was also an online survey that was open through the end of last week, allowing those interested to offer commentary remotely. Now, staff is combining feedback from the open house and the survey to make a recommendation to the Board of Aldermen.
McNaughton anticipates that the new small playground will be installed by the end of 2025.
As Crestwood looks to the future, the city hopes to address the larger play structure at Spellman Park in 2026-2027. Residents gave input on the large playground, too — the city received suggestions such as adding multiple slides, obstacle courses, zip lines, monkey bars, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility and more.
