Ex-community college trustee files for County Council seat

A former St. Louis Community College trustee is the third person to file for the Democratic nomination in this fall’s 3rd District County Council race.

Robert “Bob” Nelson of Kirkwood filed May 13 for the Aug. 3 Democratic primary in the council race after Valery Starr, also of Kirkwood, withdrew her name the day before.

Starr had filed on April 28 for the primary after west county resident Kathy Schweitzer withdrew her name on April 21.

Missouri law requires election officials to reopen filing if the only candidate for a primary withdraws after regular filing ends.

Nelson previously served as a St. Louis Community College trustee in Subdistrict 4.

He was defeated for re-election in April.

He is expected to challenge incumbent Councilman Colleen Wasinger, R-Town and Country, in the general election on Nov. 2.

Wasinger, who is seeking her second four-year term on the council, is unopposed in the Republican primary.
