Drivers in Crestwood and Kirkwood or those who frequently travel Interstate 44 should be prepared for alternative travel plans overnight this weekend.
The Missouri Department of Transportation will close I-44 overnight from Friday into Saturday at the Big Bend exit so construction crews can add the finishing touches to the new Big Bend bridge.
MoDOT said crews will begin to close eastbound lanes at 8 p.m. Sep. 30 and all eastbound lanes should be closed by 9. At midnight, crews will begin closing westbound lanes, with all lanes slated to be closed by 1 a.m. The highway should reopen by 6 a.m. Saturday.
Drivers will be able to get through the area by using the Big Bend entrance and exit ramps off I-44 to bypass the construction. Regardless, drivers should be prepared for significant delays and MoDOT encourages drivers to find alternative routes.
