Domien and Margaret Meert celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Aug. 11 during a reception at the Meert Christmas Tree Farm in Festus.

Mr. Meert and the former Margaret Hampton were married Aug. 9, 1942, during a civil ceremony in Old Monroe.

Mr. Meert is retired from Boeing, where he worked for 42 years. Mrs. Meert is retired from the Mehlville School District.

They are the parents of four: Domien III (Eileen) Meert; Robert (Rosalie) Meert, the late Steven Meert; and Barbara Atchison.

The couple have 10 grandchildren: Anna (Steve) Mueller, Domien Meert IV, Connie (Mark) Foster, Stephanie (John) Robert, Jennifer (Scott) Sommerkamp, John (Deb) Meert, Nicole (Tim) Warren, Michele Meert, Danielle Meert and Eran (Danielle) Atchison.

They have 16 great-grandchildren: Lucas Mueller, Maggie Mueller, Domien Meert V, Hannah Meert, Caroline Meert, Thomas Robert, Samantha Robert, Victoria Meert, Ryan Sommerkamp, Jack Meert, Grant Meert, Mia Meert, Olivia Warren, Lily Rowe, Austin Horton Atchison and Logan Atchison.
