Delays on MSD Baumgartner Road project in Oakville extend road closure

Delays on MSD Baumgartner Road project in Oakville extend road closure

Part of Baumgartner Road in Oakville will be closed for another month for a Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District project after construction delays.

An MSD contractor is replacing several feet of both a wastewater and stormwater sewer just south and east of Baumgartner Road and west of Telegraph Road.

The project kicked off at the beginning of June and was set to last a month, but will now extend another month, through the end of July.

In the course of the Oakville project, crews found a six-inch Missouri American Water main that was deteriorating and needed to be repaired, MSD spokesman Lance LeComb told the Call.

MSD crews also discovered an eight-inch sewer line that needed to be replaced.

“We went ahead and made those repairs because it’s easier to do it now than patch it back up and have it break down the road later and have further delay and further costs,” LeComb said.

The contractor wanted to wait to begin work on the project until classes at Oakville High School were out for the summer to avoid possible larger volumes of traffic. The contractor obtained the permit through the St. Louis County Department of Transportation.
