The Crestwood Parks and Recreation Department hosted an open house event at the Crestwood Community Center, 245 Whitecliff Park Lane, on Dec. 3 regarding the new Prop-A Nature Playscape project at Whitecliff Park.
“A nature playscape uses more natural play elements for children to play with versus the traditional playground materials. This is to encourage children to enjoy nature and all of its beauty. Whitecliff Park is a beautiful park, and the city wanted to blend this playground into the setting of the park atmosphere. This was also an item that the residents voted for during the Master Park process,” Director of Parks and Recreation Eilien Ramirez explained.
The open house event featured multiple nature playscape designs for residents to vote and give their feedback on. Approximately 50 people attended the event, with 35 casting votes.
The designs will remain on display through Dec. 7 at 4 p.m., giving residents ample opportunity to voice their opinions.
An online survey will also be available from Dec. 4 through Dec. 8.
“During the planning process, we are being deliberate in creating playground features that are inclusive and accessible to children of all abilities,” Crestwood Mayor Scott Shipley said. “In addition, the playscape will be thoughtfully integrated with native plantings, which not only enhance the natural beauty of the park but also provide important environmental benefits like supporting local wildlife and improving stormwater management.”
The nature playscape project at Whitecliff Park was made possible through the passage of Proposition A in April. Proposition A passed by 59.81%.
The playscape will be installed as part of the new Crestwood Community Center construction, with an anticipated completion date of fall 2026.
“I’m encouraged by the interest shown for this project and am grateful to our residents for helping to shape the future of our parks,” Shipley said. “Their feedback helps ensure that the playscape becomes a destination for families to enjoy for years to come.”
