After 15 years of business, Chevys Fresh Mex’s location at Crestwood Court has closed its doors for good, a company official said Monday.
The restaurant decided not to renew its lease with the mall because of declining sales, majority owner John Whicker said.
“The beginning of the decline was when Dillard’s pulled out, and we hung on until the end of our lease,” Whicker told the Call. “Kinda sad, but it happens.”
The Dillard’s department store left Crestwood Court in 2007, followed by Macy’s in April.
Whicker said all Crestwood Court Chevys employees were offered jobs at other locations, with the majority of them transferring to the Chevys restaurant on Tesson Ferry Road.
“Through this whole thing we’ve been communicating with our employees on how things were going,” Whicker said. “So there’s really no surprise.”
