The St. Louis County Council passed a smoking ban this month that bans smoking at county parks and limits it in casinos.
The bill passed by a vote of 5-0 at the council’s Aug. 8 meeting, with 1st District Councilwoman Rita Heard Day, D Bel-Nor; 2nd District Councilwoman Kelli Dunaway, D-Chesterfield; 3rd District Councilman Dennis Hancock, R-Fenton, and 6th District Councilman Ernie Trakas, R-Oakville, joining the bill’s sponsor and Council Chairwoman Shalonda Webb of the 4th District in approving the bill. Fifth District Councilwoman Lisa Clancy, D-Maplewood, and 7th District Councilman Mark Harder were absent.
The legislation adds marijuana to the definition of smoking, which is banned anywhere tobacco is not allowed.
With the bill in effect, smoking of any kind, whether it’s tobacco, marijuana or vaping, is not allowed on county property, indoors or outdoors, including parks. This includes property leased by the county.
In casinos, smoking is restricted to 50% of the floor under the legislation.
