New security entrances at both Buerkle Middle School and Washington Middle School are now complete.
Prior to the completion of the new entrances, visitors had immediate access to the entire school after entering through the exterior doors and had to walk across the school’s main hallway before reaching the office. Visitors now must enter both schools through secure lobbies where they are required to provide identification and a reason for their visit to a staff member before being granted access to the rest of the building.
The office at Washington Middle was also relocated to a lower level, making it more accessible to visitors. Before construction, visitors had to climb up a set of stairs to reach the front entrance.
Every school in the Mehlville School District is receiving or has received a more secure entrance due to the passing of Proposition S in April 2021.
