To the editor:
Our city reeks of marijuana. I will be driving down Interstate 44 or 270 or 55, and suddenly get overwhelmed by the smell of a dead skunk. Or, I will go shopping, and I will smell it in the parking lot or inside the store. Or, I will be walking somewhere, such as a neighborhood park, and I will smell it.
I had supported the legalization of marijuana because I thought it was unfair for people to get arrested and fined for such a petty crime. I didn’t want their futures ruined because of the arrest on their permanent record. And, I thought the tax revenue from the legal selling of marijuana would help cities pay for government expenses. But, I didn’t realize the smell would pollute our area so much. It stinks and reduces our quality of life.
I strongly urge city officials to pass regulations to keep our public air free from the smell of marijuana. This will make going outdoors more enjoyable again.
