Charges were issued last Thursday against a Lemay man for the alleged murder of his wife.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s office issued charges for first-degree murder and armed criminal action on Feb. 12 against 62-year-old Robert Leverenz, of the 4200 block of Leeshore Drive in Lemay.
According to police, at approximately 9:51 a.m. on Feb. 1, the defendant called 911 to report that he had tried to murder his wife. He told dispatchers that he had choked his wife and struck her with a hammer.
Officers arrived and placed the defendant under arrest. The victim, who was identified as 62-year-old Kathleen Leverenz, was pronounced deceased at the scene, with severe injuries to her head.
Robert Leverenz is being held on a $1 million cash-only, no-10% bond.
The St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons are leading the investigation.
