In the candidate questionnaire response from Kevin Schartner, who is the Democratic candidate in the 6th District St. Louis County Council race against Mike Archer, and the subsequent endorsement by The Call in the Oct. 24 print edition, our endorsement referenced an endorsement by the St. Louis County Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) in support of Schartner. It has since been clarified that the FOP endorsement applied only to the August primary election. The FOP has not issued an endorsement for any candidate in the November general election.
Schartner provided this statement by email regarding the support in the general election: “My opponent and I were both endorsed in the primary and we both have the support of the Police Association in the general. I don’t know why he isn’t proud of this. This is the police organization that matters in South County.”
Archer did earn the endorsement of the Missouri Law Enforcement Legislative Coalition for the general election.
“I am very humbled and honored the Missouri Law Enforcement Legislative Coalition endorsed me for St. Louis County Council. I know a lot of the members from my 18 years in the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office. They work hard every day to protect our safety and welfare. They are willing to give their lives to protect us. That is why I am so honored and humbled they would endorse me for St. Louis County Council,” Archer stated in a post on his campaign’s Facebook page.
