Candidate filing under way for April election

Filing opened last week for municipal seats, school-board seats and a seat on the Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors that are up for election Tuesday, April 7.

Filing began Dec. 16 and will continue through 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20.

The Green Park mayoral seat is up for election. In addition, aldermanic seats are up for election in Crestwood, Green Park and Sunset Hills. Two seats are up for election on both the Lindbergh and Mehlville boards of education along with one seat on the fire-district board.

Crestwood

Six of the eight seats on the Crestwood Board of Aldermen are up for election.

In Ward 1, seats held by Rich Bland and Carol “C.J.” McGee are up for election.

The seat held by Bland is up for a three-year term.

The seat held by McGee, who was appointed after the death of her husband, Harold “Mac” McGee, is for the remainder of his term, which expires in April 2010.

Mary “Mimi” Duncan has filed as a Ward 1 candidate, but at press time had not specified which term she is seeking.

In Ward 2, seats held by Chris Pickel and Mike Kelsch are up for election.

At press time, no candidates had filed in Ward 2. The seat held by Pickel is up for a three-year term. The seat held by Kelsch, who was appointed after former Alderman Steve Knarr resigned, is for the remainder of Knarr’s term, which expires in April 2010.

In Ward 3, Gregg Roby, first elected in 2005, has filed for re-election. The seat carries a three-year term.

In Ward 4, Steve Nieder, first elected in 2005, has filed for re-election. The seat carries a three-year term.

Green Park

The mayoral seat held by Tony Konopka, who was elected two years ago, is up for election. Filing was Fred Hoehn, a former alderman who led the effort to incorporate the city. Konopka also filed for re-election.

Aldermanic seats held by Tony Pousosa of Ward 1, Tim Thuston of Ward 2 and Mark Hayden of Ward 3 also are up for election.

At press time, only Hayden had filed.

All seats in Green Park carry two-year terms.

Sunset Hills

Seats held by Ward 1 Alderman Doug McGuire, Ward 2 Alderman John Littlefield, Ward 3 Alderman Jan Hoffmann and Ward 4 Alderman Pat Fribis are up for election. Fribis was appointed to the Ward 4 seat after former Ward 4 Alderman Mike Svoboda was elected mayor last April. All of the seats carry two-year terms.

At press time, all four incumbents had filed. Also filing was William Nolan Jr., who will challenge McGuire in Ward 1.

Lindbergh school board

Seats on the Lindbergh Board of Education held by President Ken Fey and Secretary Janine Fabick are up for election.

The seats carry three-year terms. At press time, Fabick had filed.

Mehlville school board

Seats on the Mehlville Board of Education held by President Tom Diehl and Vice President Micheal Ocello are up for election.

The seats carry three-year terms. At press time, two candidates had filed — Gary Britt Rose and Linda Mooy, who ran unsuccessfully last year for a seat on the school board.

If the number of school-board candidates who file is equal to the number of positions to be filled, no election will be conducted.

However, if the number of candidates filing exceeds the number of positions, an election will take place April 7.

MFPD board

A Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors seat held by Treasurer Bonnie Stegman is up for election April 7.

The seat carries a six-year term.

At press time, Stegman was the only candidate to file.
