St. Louis Blues players including Oakville native Patrick Maroon, right, and Jordan Binnington visited children at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital around Christmas 2018.

Today Patrick Maroon is a hockey star with the St. Louis Blues, helping lead them to the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in 49 years.

But Oakville High hockey fans also know he was a key member of the school’s state championship team and state runner-up team when he attended in the mid-2000s.

And readers of The Call with good memories may just remember reading about the hockey star in this newspaper first.

The Call’s coverage of Maroon from his time in high school is highlighted on our website as a “South County Blast from the Past” to celebrate The Call’s 30th anniversary this year.

Maroon attended Rogers Elementary, Oakville Middle School and Oakville High School.

Stay tuned in a future issue to hear from those who knew him back then, including his teacher and coaches.
