93rd Missouri House District
In the 93rd Missouri House District race, voters will choose between incumbent Rep. Bridget Walsh Moore, a Democrat, and Libertarian candidate James O’Donnell. Walsh Moore’s experience as a legislator and her commitment to South County residents make her the stronger choice in this race. Her focus on issues like health care, particularly informed by her own personal experiences, resonates with constituents who are concerned about the rising cost of care.
O’Donnell’s emphasis on holding the government accountable and restoring resources to neglected areas is commendable. However, Walsh Moore has a proven record of bringing necessary resources to her district, including her work advocating for public education. For these reasons, The Call endorses Walsh Moore.
94th Missouri House District
For the 94th Missouri House District, voters will once again decide between incumbent Rep. Jim Murphy and his challenger, Kyle Kerns. Murphy’s track record of effective leadership during his time in office is clear. His work during the pandemic, including organizing food drives and securing COVID-19 vaccine clinics for the district, has made a tangible impact on residents’ lives. He has also worked together with the Mehlville Fire Protection District to bring bleed control training to the community, and sponsored legislation for the state’s first baby box, installed right here in Oakville.
Kerns has put forth strong ideas, particularly in supporting education and seniors. However, Murphy’s hands-on approach and clear commitment to South County give him the edge in this race. The Call endorses Murphy.
96th Missouri House District
In the 96th Missouri House District race, voters have two strong candidates to choose from: incumbent Rep. Brad Christ and Leslie Derrington. Both candidates are passionate about serving their communities and offer valuable perspectives on issues like education and public safety. However, Derrington’s focus on abortion rights, supporting public education and advocating for commonsense gun laws aligns more closely with the values we believe will benefit the district.
While Christ has supported impactful legislation, his support for Missouri’s restrictive abortion laws and legislation that would grant state control over local police forces runs counter to the principles of small government. Given these concerns, we believe Derrington’s approach better reflects the district’s needs. The Call endorses Derrington.
92nd and 95th Missouri House Districts
The candidates in these races: Rep, Michael Burton, D-Lakeshire, and Kenneth Abram in the 92nd; and Rep. Michael O’Donnell, R-Oakville, and Deb Langland in the 95th; did not return the election questionnaire by The Call’s Oct. 24 press deadline and were therefore ineligible for endorsement at that time.
