Crestwood Police arrest two suspects wanted in fatal hit-and-run robbery

Crestwood Police have arrested two suspects wanted in connection with a Monday robbery and hit-and-run vehicular accident at Starbucks that resulted in the death of Crestwood man Roger Kreutz.

Crestwood Police Chief Micheal Paillou said the two individuals, who are from the Atlanta, Ga., area, were apprehended at 12:10 p.m. Thursday by Crestwood Police in St. Louis city limits.

He declined to reveal their names or ages.

He noted that the two suspects were arrested without resistance and that police had acted on three “significant” leads.

Paillou said that while Crestwood Police are questioning the two suspects this afternoon, formal charges could be filed either later today or Friday after consultation with St. Louis County prosecutors.

The police chief added that the two suspects had been visiting friends in the St. Louis area and had also been staying in area hotels.

According to Crestwood Police, at approximately 3 p.m. on Monday, March 3, two individuals entered the Starbucks in the 9600 block of Watson Road.

After the female suspect made a purchase, she left the store.

Within a short time, the male suspect took a tip jar containing roughly $5 from the Starbucks counter and ran to a white 1990s Ford Taurus with no license plate detected. Paillou said the vehicle was driven by the female suspect.

Kreutz, a frequent Crestwood Starbucks customer, attempted to stop the suspects by running after them, but was struck by the white Ford Taurus.

Kreutz died at 1:37 a.m. Wednesday as a result of injuries sustained in that accident.

He was the owner of the Viking Conference Center and Holiday Inn in Sunset Hills.

The male suspect was described as a white male with a height of 5-foot-10 to 6-foot-1, between the ages of 17 and 20 with brown hair over his ears and a thin build. He was wearing blue jeans and a brown and tan stripe jacket with a hood at the time of the incident.

The female suspect was described as between the ages of 16 and 19 with a medium build and blonde shoulder-length hair. She was wearing a Led Zeppelin shirt and a black jacket at the time of the incident.

When asked Wednesday if the two suspects could face murder charges in connection with Kreutz’s death, Paillou said: “It could lead to that. Right now, the medical examiner is doing an autopsy. And based on those results, it will probably indicate which way we go with the charges . . .It could be some type of a vehicular manslaughter, homicide. We’ll probably sit down with St. Louis County prosecutors . . .and work out the exact charge because we won’t have all the information.”
