Drivers who regularly use the Big Bend Bridge over Interstate 44 near Kirkwood and Crestwood have some good news after the Missouri Department of Transportation reopened the bridge Monday.
Crews were scheduled to open one lane in each direction as well as the left turn lanes onto interstate before evening rush hour Aug. 15, weather permitting -— after The Call went to press.
Work will continue around the bridge to finish sidewalks, the outside barrier wall and other tasks before the project is complete.
The left lane in each direction on I-44 will also remain closed so crews can complete the median barrier and drainage work.
The bridge replacement project began in April when crews removed the previous Big Bend bridge. That bridge was built in 1967 and had reached the end of useful life according to MoDOT.
The full project is projected to be completed in November.
