Bayless High School is hosting its first ever “Meet the Broncos” event Thursday, Aug. 31 to kick off the new season of fall sports and activities. The event will be held in “The Barn” –  the Bayless High School gymnasium, 4532 Weber Road – at 7 p.m.

All fall sports – boys soccer, cheer, dance, boys and girls cross country, football, girls tennis, girls volleyball and softball – along with band and theatre will be introduced to the crowd by their coaches or representatives.

“It kind of gives the kids that moment to feel special,” Alex Johnson, assistant principal and athletic administrator at Bayless High School, said.

Johnson took inspiration from his previous district and started this event at Bayless to better connect the school to the community.

“It was a big deal where I came from, in Clinton,” Johnson said. “It’s a little harder to create and generate that energy, because you know, a small town shuts down for Friday nights (and) here in St. Louis … you can do anything on a Friday night. So creating that excitement for Broncho Athletics and Activities, and then also just giving the opportunity to introduce our kids, and our staff to the community is really the big idea.”

Moving forward, Johnson plans on doing a “Meet the Broncos” event for winter and spring sports and activities as well.
