All Mehlville administrators will receive 6-percent salary increases

Board changes stance, awards full pay raises to Hayes, Viviano, Wallace

All Mehlville School District administrators will receive 6-percent salary increases for the 2007-2008 school year, the Board of Education has decided.

In doing so, board members voted last week to rescind a previous action that gave two administrators salary increases less than 6 percent and one administrator no salary increase. In separate motions during a closed session last week, the board:

• Voted 5-2 to rescind a previous action and grant Buerkle Middle School Principal Scott Hayes a 6-percent salary increase for the 2007-2008 school year. Hayes previously had been given a 3-percent raise. Voting to award Hayes a 6-percent salary hike were board President Tom Diehl, board Secretary Micheal Ocello and board members Ken Leach, Larry Felton and Cindy Christopher. Opposed were board Vice President Karl Frank Jr. and board member Venki Palamand.

Hayes’ salary will be $105,679.06 — up from the $99,697.23 he was paid for the 2006-2007 school year. He previously was paid $95,858.91.

For the 2004-2005 school year, he was paid $94,401.02. For the 2003-2004 school year, Hayes’ salary was $93,218.54.

• Voted 5-2 to rescind a previous action and grant Mehlville Senior High School Principal Vince Viviano a 6-percent pay raise for the 2007-2008 school year. Vivian previously had been awarded a 2-percent salary increase.

Voting to grant Viviano a 6-percent salary increase were Diehl, Ocello, Leach, Felton and Christopher. Opposed were Frank and Palamand.

Viviano’s salary will be $118,551.14 — up from the $111,840.70 he was paid for the 2006-2007 school year. He previously was paid $107,544.17.

For the 2004-2005 school year, Viviano was paid $106,028.70. For the 2003-2004 school year, his salary was $104,189.29.

• Voted 4-3 to rescind a previous action and award a 6-percent raise to School/Community Relations Director Patrick Wallace for the 2007-2008 school year. Wallace previously had been denied a salary increase. Voting to grant Wallace a 6-percent salary increase were Ocello, Leach, Felton and Christopher.

Opposed were Diehl, Frank and Palamand.

Wallace’s salary will be $73,618.27 — up from the $69,451.20 he was paid last year.

The Board of Education had voted 5-2 last month to approve a 6-percent salary increase for the 2007-2008 school year for all administrators except Hayes, Viviano and Wallace. Frank and Palamand were opposed.
