Affton High School senior Vivian Lang was recently recognized as a 2025 Rosemary Zander Award winner by the Special School District (SSD) of St. Louis County.
“Vivian never backs down from a challenge, instead using it as a learning and growing opportunity. She is kind and helpful to others, always willing to support classmates and includes students of all abilities in school culture,” Amber Burgdorf, Affton High School SSD Resource Teacher, stated. “Her leadership, compassion and dedication to uplifting those around her make her a truly inspiring presence in her school and community.”
Established in 1988, SSD students have been recognized with the Rosemary Zander Award for their accomplishments in academics, arts, athletics, communications, vocational training, employment, independent living skills, community service and extracurricular activities. Recipients are chosen each year by a panel of SSD judges.
Five students, including Lang, from across St. Louis County were honored with the award this year, with Lang alone representing South County. All Rosemary Zander winners and scholarship recipients will be honored at the “Inspiring Futures” ceremony on April 29. The event will be held at the Clark Branch of the St. Louis County Library, 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd., from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
