Caden Michael Self, a 10-year-old from Oakville, recently was presented the Outstanding Juvenile Performance Award at the 13th annual Arts for Life Best Performance Awards gala.

Caden was nominated for his role as Charlie in the Maryland Heights Community Theatre’s production of “Willy Wonka: the Musical,” according to a news release.

This was Caden’s second year to be nominated for this award. He was nominated last year for his role as Chip in Christ Memorial Productions’ “Beauty and the Beast.”

Each year, Arts for Life conducts an annual event to honor the contributions of community volunteers to musical theater in the metro area. This year’s event, hosted by radio personality Vic Porcelli, was conducted earlier this month at the William D. Purser Center in Chesterfield.

Caden has performed in numerous local productions since the age of 7.

He has performed with the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Christ Memorial Productions, the Maryland Heights Community Theater, the DramaRama Theatre Company, the Crestwood-Kirkwood Youth Theatre and at the Muny.

This summer, Caden will be understudying the role of Kurt in STAGES St. Louis’ production of “The Sound of Music.”
